Abu Dhabi, UAE – 22 April 2016: On the penultimate day of competition in the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2016, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the global capital of Jiu-Jitsu entered uncharted territory in the new five-day format.

Having previously only run for three days, the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship roared into life on day four as the Purple and Black belt male players (with Brown Belt Open Weight) and Brown/Black belt female players stepped onto the mat to open play for the day. Also joining in the action was Brown belt Master 1 (with Brown and Black belt Open Weight) and Brown and Black belt Master 2 (with open weight), respectively.

With medals up for grabs on day four the UAE National Team were triumphant in winning a further five medals (3 gold/1 silver/1 bronze), including an exceptional performance on the mat by fan favourite Brown belt Mohammed Al Qubaisi, 77kg, who won gold.

Returning champion Mackenzie Dern showed off her Jiu-Jitsu talent on the mat by beating Ariadne Oliveira to secure a spot in the Black belt, 55kg, final against Marina Ribeiro tomorrow at the final day of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

Mohammed bin Dalmoog Al Dhaheri, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, commented on a historic day for the Championship and the UAE, he said:

“As we step into the unknown at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship in 2016 the scale of what we have achieved becomes real and we can truly appreciate what a memorable competition it has been. With the final day of the Championship still to come tomorrow we have high hopes for even more success to round-off what has been an unforgettable competition and to truly cement Abu Dhabi’s status as the global capital of Jiu-Jitsu.”

Having enjoyed a Jiu-Jitsu masterclass from day one, the fans, players and members of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation have witnessed some truly dramatic moments and watched their heroes fight their way to the top.

However, it is not all over yet, with the final day of Championship still to come tomorrow, Saturday 23rd April, fans can still enjoy the very best of Jiu-Jitsu when play commences one last time in 2016 at the IPIC Arena, Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi. Attendees will also have an extended chance to enjoy all the activities and interactive stands at the IPIC Fan Zone, which will stay open past the last day of competition until April 24th, and to enter the raffle draw that could see entrants winning one of three incredible prizes. These prizes include; a Jaguar XF – for members of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; a Jaguar XE – to be won through the ADTV programme; and a last but not least a Land Rover Discovery – for fans that register in the IPIC Fan Zone.
